Udaipur - NGO participation was very encouraging
Udaipur trip was one of the few trips we were eagerly waiting for. While the morning was a bit chilling, by the time we took off for the day, the sun was out and yes it was the perfect time to start with the day. The session started off with the founders introducing the concept of IYCN and the very need of such a movement.
Kartikeyan once again stressed that there is an urgent need to get youth and young professionals to begin to start contemplating the implications of climate change for India and the world and we need to empower the next generation for climate leaders and mobilize them into collective action to show the world that India is taking action and that the solutions exist and they are here to be utilized and replicated today.
The audience that turned up on a weekend morning genuinely was impressed. It was great to see people like Mr AK Upadhyay ,Chief Conservative Office Udaipur who also was the chief guest and Mr Dholakia Chief SBBJ supporting IYCN and requesting the local people to be environment friendly. In their speech they aptly described why we need to think globally and act locally, something I believe we all need to apply in our day to day lifestyle. One of the discoveries I made during Professor and Dean N.S. Rathod session’s where he introduced us about the concept of Solar Powered Dairies that have been initiated in Udaipur.
After the lunch, it was time for the Local NGO’s Shiskantar and Sanjhi who had already set up their displays and showcasing their profiles. Sanjhi had their unique project that was initiated with National Geographic Society with children of Rajasthan. Shikshantar believes “best from waste”, other than having Solar powered cookers, they also hand grinders and washing machines that operated by cycling.
This was followed by performance from The Solar Punch. With the sun shining in the background, and the band playing some crisp, sunny numbers, the spirits were high again. The Solar Punch performances have always been the ice breaker and the most refreshing thing on the tour. Music really gets the crowd going and they leave the crowd in awe with equipment.
As we strolled along the University of Udaipur watching the implementation of Solar Technology and the solar panels, we realized that in the quest of climate change we do participation from the unsung heroes.
