Environmental Education – Tribal Girls School, Gujarat
While Environmental Education has been made a mandatory subject by the Supreme Court in school and university curriculums, in the interior of Dharampur, at Eco-Centre, they have taken it a step further. Environmental Education lies at the heart of their educational system.
Students from tribal communities combine traditional thoughts and modern ideas to manage natural resources in a sustainable manner. A high emphasis on practical education ensures that students are more aware about the technological aspects of using solar energy. Consequently students help villagers to install and manage solar cookers. Even in their hostels, all their energy needs are met by solar energy.

Our visit to the tribal girls school was incredibly inspiring, as we shared our ideas through music, dance and song, alternating performances from the girls and from the road tour team. We had a beautiful morning together, looking at our cars and their smiles, hearing their songs and ours in languages neither could understand but with messages we both knew. How beautiful it is that we can all speak together when we speak in song! In the video below, they sing about the impacts that man has on the environment without recognizing the fact that the earth belongs to no one person and that we are only borrowing these resources from our children.
